Kerala elections

The ordeal of election campaign has come to an end…
At last the election results are out. Every one, the voters and the candidates alike were anxiously waiting for the out comes. It is natural that every one cannot win; those who are lucky won and others are unhappy.

This time the ruling party LDF (Left Democratic Front) lost at many key positions and places scraped through in some. It appears that people are unhappy with the performance of the ruling party or may be the opposition could take advantage of the situation and appeal to the voters for change.

As against the previous years, political awareness, especially among the lower economic strata, has increased. They have come forward to put up candidates from their own group. The general feeling is that if you can, I too can try my luck; with or without the support of the established political parties. This is a dangerous trend and promotes mobocracy. There were many independent candidates: this time, they are a decisive factor. There were many lost opportunities on account of the intervention from independent candidates.

It is interesting to note that majority of the candidates, irrespective of the party affiliation, are drawn from lower economic strata. Most of them are not even graduates. How do you expect them to cope with the demands of their position? Will they be able to appreciate the intricacies of governing and decision making.

The world is changing very fast. Application of technology in every day life is the key to improving the quality of life and economic progress. This calls for understanding the world, to communicate and interact with environment effortlessly for managing change.

Change at the individual, family, group and organization level holds the key to successful implementation of projects and programs of the government. Will our elected representatives deliver our expectations? What can we do about this…introspect!

Our electoral system needs radical changes: the norms and age-old mechanisms need change. Who will bell the cat?  Let us wait for the avatar of another Mahatma with little or no political ambition for themselves or their kith and kin!
